Your Part in His Story
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” -Jesus Christ (Revelation 22:13)
We all have a part to play in God’s story. He continuously offers us the best parts. We can all play an important role in some way. Even the person who gets minimal screen time has an important part to play in the telling of His story.
Our seemingly insignificant gifts are for His glory. Our mercy, our prayers, our words, our silence, our solidarity with the weak amongst us, our vulnerability, our love in action, our presence, our humor, our service, all we have, He is able to use for His glory.
His story is about weak people. It’s about children. It’s about sinful, broken people. It’s about imperfect people. It’s about poor people. It’s about meek people. It’s about sheep. It’s about people who come in last. Somehow, He chooses people like these to display His grace, His love, and His power. He chooses people like us to display His glory.
We can live for His glory now when we choose Him, when we submit to His will consistently, when we submit our will to Him. We can live for His glory now when we let Him transform us, and conform us to the image of His Son, who lived a perfectly righteous life. We learn the ways of His upside-down kingdom as we learn to become the least. We learn to wash one another’s feet.
He notices the things we do in secret, our secret sacrifices. He watches when we choose to put others first. He watches when we lay down our lives for our neighbors. He notices. It’s part of the story He’s writing, and the end is glorious.
I want to truly play my part well. I want to labor in love faithfully until the end. I want to serve others well. I want to encourage and strengthen and help build others up. I want to tell the right kinds of stories. I want to preach the good news of the kingdom. Christ has already overcome, and He is getting ready for His return. We can be a part of that. We can belong to Him. We can be free from the guilt of sin and the power of sin.
The LORD is calling us through His revealed word, the Bible. He is calling us to abandon the way of the world. He is calling us to be a people for the display of His glory. We can be different. We have been called to be the light of the world. God is seeking true worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. He is looking for weak people like us who will trust Him with our wills. He is seeking those who say, “Lord, You alone have the words of eternal life.”
When we accept this call, we accept a role in His Story. And He Himself is able to cause us to walk with Him faithfully until He brings His glorious plan to fulfillment. There is no other God, no other way.
Jesus is the beginning and the end of the story.
