When We Are Weighed Down

Many things on earth have the capacity to weigh us down. Sin, worry, anxiety, guilt, confusion, fear. For the most part these in some form or combination are the things that weigh us down.

Some of us beat ourselves up for how many times we’ve slipped. We say things or do things that expose us for the fraud we think we are. “Now so and so is going to think the worst of me.” Sometimes people’s judgement weighs us down. Our judgement can weigh others down.

Gravity is always pulling at us. Even on the days it feels like we’re floating in the clouds, the gravity of life can’t wait to put an end to our euphoria.

Our choices weigh us down. We acquire and acquire and load ourselves with needless stuff. We pursue things for the short term, and we are convinced we would be happy. Only it doesn’t last, and we want more. We are weighed down.

Christ offers us rest from our striving. He says His yoke is easy and His burden is light. If we choose to acknowledge our weaknesses, swallow our pride, then we stand a chance to be rescued, because His strength is made perfect in our weakness. His grace is sufficient for us.

“O what peace we often forfeit. O what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer.”*

Letting go is the hardest thing. We fear we would fall, or lose out, or miss out. But Christ calls us to have faith like a child. Faith is trusting in the One who is faithful. God is faithful; He has proved that through Jesus Christ. We can trust Him. We can let go.

LORD, may I rather boast in my weaknesses and in Your cross. May I not choose to boast inwardly or otherwise of my strengths, which are very little in the end. Work in me. Change me. Have mercy on me. Use me for Your glory. In Jesus Name. Amen. Thank You LORD.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)

‘But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV)
