This Wicked Generation

Jul 2, 2019 | Exhortation

‘With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”’ (Acts 2:40)

I’ve been considering the times were in a lot. I’ve been thinking about what it means to be a Christian, who the church is, and what living out the great commission looks like.

I’ve been angry a lot at the things I’ve found to be wrong. I’ve been restless concerning truth and how great the darkness of our times seems to be. I’ve seen in a sense the devil, our adversary, rejoicing over his captives, and I’ve hurt for those to whom the truth is veiled. Little children right now are being raised in homes where people lie all the time about the nature of God (consciously or not, knowingly or unknowingly). Some children would be raised not according to the word of God, but according to what makes them feel good and what version of truth they choose to accept.

I’ve seen the church encourage wickedness and many evils. I’ve seen men and women led astray by the promises of prosperity. I’ve seen individuals deceived by a taste of spiritual power. I’ve seen people go uncorrected, undisciplined. I’ve seen people who profess to be Christians live a double life and be lied to about their sins, either by themselves or by those who ought to be watching over their souls.

I’ve seen Christians pay little heed to the commands of Christ and His warnings. I’ve seen scriptures preached and taught out of context. I’ve seen Christians deceived by what they think is the intellectual prowess of the world over the church. I’ve chaos, and spiritual death. I’ve deception and many manifestations of evil. I’ve seen minions of satan running freely into the world to influence it with corrupt music and many forms of media. I’ve seen Christians support evil because it works for the pleasure of their temporal, fleshly natures. And I am hurt when I see these things.

Where is gone the fear of God? Why is God to many now the picture of a genie rather than the Master of the universe? Why are people not afraid? Why are they free to do what they want, and why do they think God will be okay with that? Why do we think such things? Is it not because we do not have the fear of God?

Here is a quote from God Himself: “The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread.” (Isaiah 8:13)

If God turns His face against you, who will you implore on your behalf? “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:31)

I know the fear of God is not dead in this generation, but it certainly seems that way. It’s only God that should occupy the throne of our lives. He cannot share His glory with anyone. Let us as individual members of the body of Christ begin to go back to the truth that many of us have either discarded or have been unfortunate not to know. That truth is found in the holy scriptures – the Bible. Read the whole book and keep reading it. Study it, not by asking what other men think nor by coming up with some new revelation. Let us know what it really says and understand it so that it may be fruitful in our lives. So that we may be fruitful in this life.

I must speak the truth while it is still day time. I must practice the truth. I cannot do it in my own strength. But I have the Holy Spirit our Helper, Teacher and Comforter. HalleluYAH! We must know, practice and speak the truth. Our time is short. The time is short. We do not have all the time in the world.

Will you seek God in prayer today? Will you study His word? Will you choose to know the truth? Will you practice the truth of scriptures even if it costs you everything? Will you be found to be pleasing the LORD and not yourself? Will Jesus know you at the end? Oh, that He may call us His own! That He may receive us with much rejoicing when He calls us home!
