The Man I Forgot

He was there standing among them

A distinct face in the crowd

So familiar was his face

If I could just remember

Remember him

I had to do it

I had to say hello

He smiled at me

He called my name

I fumbled

Stumbled on words

I know I know you but I don’t remember

He filled in the blanks

He told me his name

And then I remembered

And wondered why I ever forgot

I wished in that moment that I had remembered

And I wished he’d say my name again

Say my name again
