Isn’t Jesus Beautiful?

 

I don’t feel capable of telling this story, but what you’ll see in this post is my feeble attempt at it. My only hope is that in my weakness, Christ’s strength would be perfect.

 

Jesus Christ is beautiful. The story of His love as shown to us in His sacrifice is one that would last forever. His brokenness, His ugliness, His shame, His pain for our sake, all of it is beautiful because He made it that way. He did something for us that we could not have accomplished for ourselves, by becoming the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind.

“Just as there were many who were appalled at him – his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness…” (Isaiah 52:14 NIV)

We can sense the desperation in Apostle Paul as he writes his letter to the Ephesians. “…And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge -that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:17-19 NIV)

Christ’s love is so wide and so deep and so high it surpasses knowledge!

By this same Christ Jesus I am saved. God pursued me in my sin. He watched over me and guided my steps to Him. But for the Lord’s mercy I would be destroyed. I thank God with all of my being that He loved me and saved me. I thank God that He let me see His glory and His beauty. I thank God that I know what it means to dwell in the shadow of His wings. I know the greatest joy which is to know the LORD God, and to fellowship with Him. Jesus Christ has made it possible for me – for us – to walk again with God in the cool of the evenings as we once did (in a sense) in the garden.

Christ Jesus and His resurrection and the salvation He purchased through the giving of Himself is the only hope humanity has. No other god can save us. We are weak, sinful, broken and unable without Him. Christ said He laid down His life of His own accord. He did it for us willingly even though it took everything. He humbled Himself and has earned forever a Name above all names. Only by His Name can we be saved. Any other way is a weak and false one. I say this with all soberness. And yet this is the best news we could ever hear. It is the Good News. This is the gospel of Jesus Christ that saves. Nothing we could ever do could make us worthy so He went ahead and did it for us! Isn’t that beautiful?

I want to shout on the highest peak about how good God is. I want everyone to know about how great His salvation is. I want people to know the glorious joy that can be experienced in His presence, where He speaks gently to us, leading comforting and guiding us into His perfect will which is only for good for us. That’s why His people are likened to sheep. We know we are helpless without Him. We depend on Him for everything. And we know He is our good Shepherd and can be trusted with our lives.

Jesus you are beautiful. Lord God, your love is better than life just as the psalmist says. You are the truest greatest height that could ever be reached. You are the greatest joy that could ever be had.

Not many know about how beautiful our Lord is. People are afraid to give up their will to a God who asks for everything. But He is worthy of everything and more.

Will you taste of His goodness? Will you draw near to Him? Will you seek to know the true and risen Christ? For there are many false christs. Jesus is the Living Word of God. In Him all things consist. He is Lord for ever more. He is the salvation of mankind. He became so not by physical strength, but by becoming the weakest thing. He said not a word like sheep before the slaughter. This is the Jesus we can boldly give our lives to. This is the One we can fully place our trust in.

“Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” (Revelation 1: 17b-18 NIV)

He says that He is the only Way. He is the truth and He is the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6) This message was written long ago as a witness to the world, and at the right time God brought about His salvation. It is the right time to accept it. Receive it. Place our trust in it. In Him.

Jesus Christ is beautiful. There is no other God, no other way.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! What a wonderful God You are.
