Desperate for Truth
We are in desperate need of the truth in this age. We don’t need the new age; we just need the truth. We don’t need ‘your truth’, ‘my truth’, ‘their truth’. We just need the truth.
From the very first few chapters of the Bible, we are introduced to a broken world, and God’s immediate proclamation of His coming salvation through a messiah. That story is told again to Abraham and retold through his descendants until it is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
The world mocks the truth because it doesn’t suit our natural desires. We are suspicious of something that wants to deprive us of our pleasure and self-fulfillment in any way. We want the things we can see, feel, and touch. And we want them now. Yet Christ offers us something so glorious, but so humbling that we fight to comprehend our desperate need.
A holy God is too weird for some of us to grasp. A highly intellectual being perhaps, but not a holy one.
Some of us have acknowledged that there is a power greater than us, so we label ourselves spiritual and deny the Person behind the power. “I’m not religious, but I’m spiritual” has become the anthem of new morality.
When everything is permissible, anything is possible. And this includes a person waking up one day and deciding to get rid of his neighbor, and perhaps an entire nation.
“You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race.” (Psalm 12:7,8 NIV)
The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race. What do we honor? Self? Pleasure? The body? If so then we would be slaves to what nature teaches.
Come out from among the world and be separate. The broad way leads to destruction, but the narrow way leads to life. Choose life. Choose the holy God that calls us to be holy as He is holy. Choose the only wise God. Choose Jesus Christ who is the way, the truth, and the life.
We are in desperate need of the truth in this world full of lies. But for the grace of God, total self-destruction is imminent. Let us be lovers of the truth. Shun evil. Love what is good.
Peace to you.
