Blank Page

Have you ever encountered the blank page?

In my experience the blank page can be the most vexatious thing, and sometimes it can be so liberating, depending on where you are on the spectrum of life.

The blank page can be scary. What do I do? Where do I begin? Where do I go, east, north, west, or south? I’ve felt the overwhelmingness of the blank page. And in such moments I’ve felt stuck: the million possibilities trapping me in my one spot. Aggravation.

And then the One Person whose voice should always permeate my mind nudges me. He says, “Look again.” I look. “Do you see?” Smiling, understanding, I say, “I see it now.” It’s just a small dot, a marker. I know where to begin now.

To be honest, I don’t know if I’ll ever get to the point on earth where I’m 100 percent always unfailingly so full of faith, but this is what I strive for: to have faith. To always have faith.

The Blank page can be daunting when we fail to realize that the God of heaven and earth has made grace available to us through Christ Jesus to be reunited in love with God, has come to dwell within us and be with us in the Person of the Holy Spirit, and has granted us direct access to Himself. What I’m trying to say is GOD IS WITH US! We don’t have to be afraid anymore. We don’t have to not know where to go, and even when we don’ know, we can know that we would know. (Tongue twister, I know.)

I stare at blank pages often. And in those moments when I remember to walk in faith, I say “Lord, please help me. I need You; I trust You. Tell me what to do.” And then I wait. And then I know what to do. I’m not afraid of the Blank Page.

(In a Grandma’s voice) Don’t you worry your little head, child. You’ve got the best of the best.

‘Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,”  whether to the right or to the left.’ -Isaiah 30:21 (NLT)
